New Businesses Are Coming to Columbia’s Vista, And Improvements Are Almost Complete

People who go through Columbia’s Vista on a regular basis have probably noticed the construction on Park Street, which is immediately off Gervais. In fact, the beautification project is practically completed, with only a few last traffic cones remaining to be placed against the sidewalk.

The project included the installation of ADA-compliant walkways as well as new landscaping. Visitors will be able to enjoy more outside seats in the future, as well as improved lighting conditions. Guests are welcome to dine at any of the nearby restaurants.

The changes have contributed to making Vista an even more appealing and friendly environment for customers, and a few new businesses will be launching in the near future.

An Asian restaurant called Boku Kitchen and Saloon is set to open at 916 Gervais St., in the space formerly occupied by the Sure Fire Tacos. According to the restaurant’s website, Boku is committed to offering fresh, tasty Asian meals that are cooked from scratch. They prepare the dishes in the traditional wok style, which brings out the fresh flavors of the ingredients. Guests may enjoy a sophisticated bar scene at Boku, which will be anchored by some of the best sakes available anywhere, in addition to a broad range of liquors, inventive cocktails, and wines, as well as local craft brews. According to representatives from Boku, the restaurant’s distinctive design will feature hand-painted murals by world-renowned artist Ruben Ubiera, as well as custom furniture and lighting designed to create a warm, sophisticated, and comfortable atmosphere.

The Donut Guy, which will be located at 1215 Lincoln St., will be another new business to open in the Vista. It will serve hot little yeast/cake donuts with a range of toppings, such as maple glaze and bacon, while they are still warm.

It is anticipated that the Cambria Hotel, which is a member of the Choice Hotel group, would open in the spring of 2022 at the corner of Park and Lady Streets.

City Grit is a new food and specialty market that specializes in artisanal goods, house-made dips, chocolates, beer, wine, and gifts. It is located in the heart of downtown. It also provides take-out and family-style meals. The business, located at 707 Gervais St., has opened its doors.

The completion of Phase II of the Green Street renovation project is expected in January. It is part of a larger initiative to connect downtown Columbia with the Congaree Riverfront. Located between Gadsden and Assembly Streets, it is a $21.2 million project that will continue renovations along Greene Street. The plan calls for the construction of a new two-lane bridge with sidewalks and bike lanes over the Norfolk Southern and CSX Transportation railroads to reconnect Greene Street, as well as the addition of sidewalks and dedicated bike lanes from Huger to Gadsden Streets, as well as the construction of a new two-lane bridge with sidewalks and bike lanes over the Norfolk Southern and CSX Transportation railroads to reconnect Greene Street.

The construction of a shade structure along the bridge over the sidewalks is scheduled to begin in June 2022 and be completed by June 2023.

Once the Greene Street bridge is completed, the intersections of Devine and Gadsden Streets at the Norfolk Southern and CSX Transportation railroad crossings will be blocked to all cars and pedestrians.
